CI GLOBAL PROGRAMME ON STREET FOOD
Consumers International (CI) has been working on food issues in various ways over the past 30 years, always aiming to secure the right to safe and nutritious foods.
Food safety is a global concern.
People everywhere in the world need the assurance that the production, regulatory procedures and vending practices will deliver safe food.
On the one hand, this is of particular importance to the vulnerable urban poor who rely on street food as a key source of nutrition.
On the other hand, it highlights the major impact of street food on tourism, which means that it also affects consumer concerns in both developing and developed economies.
It is therefore important to ensure that governments, as well as corporations and civil society, live up to their international commitments in promoting this basic right.
